If Mark Zuckerberg Is Big Brother, It’s Time To Move Out The House

“Fix the need, develop the taste. Buy the products or get laid to waste”~Rage Against The Machine

So Mark Zuckerberg seems to be Big Brother with these ridiculously invasive privacy stances he’s taking with Facebook. He’s actually the same age as I am, except a month older, so seeing as I can’t physically wrestle him into submission and tell him to change the privacy settings back to the good ol’ days of when I signed up and enjoyed Facebook, I guess I’ll need to just flip him off, tell our parents what assholes they are for letting him get whatever he wants and pack my shit and leave.

I can’t hate on Zuckerberg for building a nerdy social network into a multi-billion dollar business, lord knows I know others who are trying to do the same thing, but I also can’t be part of it. I love aspects of social media and marketing, but what I’m growing to hate about it is how marketers are being put before the consumers. You know, the cart before the horse.

Facebook no longer resembles a brand worth respecting or being a part of. It’s just a community of consumers that will be funneled towards whichever advertiser sends a check.

There’s got to be a better way. We’ll have to build it.

Peace out Zuck.

Hashtag rarrr.

Though you do have some good points. I want to be able to use it to connect with people, and for that reason I’m a little nervous about letting go of it because there are some folks I *do* keep up with almost only on Facebook. I guess I could move that to email, but… ugh. Yeah, I wish there was a better way to do this.

Ironically, I read an article about Project Diaspora yesterday. It’s an open-source social media project occurring at NYU. Very grassroots… very “about the people.”

Here’s a link to the project’s site: http://www.joindiaspora.com/project.html

So long as you’re not checking off of Twitter. I like seeing people’s photos of their various travels and I have loads of colleagues around the world, so it’s easy. But yeah, Zuck is really being a tramp about this whole thing…

@Mehnaz, I’ll always be ready available for communication, I’m just trying to come to terms with how all of this affects me, ya know?

@Zack, yeah I checked them out a couple weeks ago. Pretty cool huh? I hope they do well. We need more social network diversity.

@Doni, yeah, I keep touch with a lot of people exclusively through Facebook. But then again, I wonder what the root purpose of Social Media is for me… personal or professional? a majority of one over the other? I guess that needs to be defined before I can hack away at one part of it, ya know?
